With the IPL 2026 retention deadline coming up on November 15, several franchises were quite shaken up. The three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders made the biggest splash by letting go of their all-rounder Andre Russell and the heavy-throwing Venkatesh Iyer. Punjab Kings, on the other hand, have sent off their Australian star Glenn Maxwell, who has been a considerable contributor to the team in the past seasons.

IPL teams have been busy rearranging their players while the Indian team is fighting against South Africa in the first Test at Kolkata. In this small auction cycle, there are no limits on the number of players that can be retained, so the franchises have more room to keep their backbone strong until the auction window opens in December.

The Mumbai Indians have got a head start by acquiring Shardul Thakur from Lucknow Super Giants through a trade, while Chennai Super Kings in the meanwhile have let go the Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana after the trade of Ravindra Jadeja to Rajasthan Royals.
