The countdown has begun for IPL 2026 mini-auction with reports suggesting that it would be held from the 13th to 15th of December and marking the arrival of the tournament back in India after two editions were held overseas. As per Cricbuzz, discussions among the BCCI and franchise officials have narrowed down these dates to a shortlist but are awaiting formal approval by the IPL Governing Council.

🏏 Auction Returns Home

After two editions of overseas auctions, the Dubai auction in 2023 and the Jeddah auction in Saudi Arabia in 2024, the IPL auction is slated to return to Indian soil. Though the venue is yet to be finalized, sources indicate that the BCCI is keen on hosting the event domestically and has been working toward resurrecting traditional fan engagement.

📅 Player Retention Deadline: November 15

The BCCI has officially informed all 10 IPL franchises that the player retention deadline is November 15, 2025. By this date, teams must submit their final list of retained and released players ahead of the mini-auction.

While most teams are expected to retain their core players, franchises like Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are reportedly planning significant roster changes after underwhelming performances in IPL 2025.

💛 CSK to Part Ways With Big Names?

As per early reports, CSK could release several notable players before the 2026 auction. The list may include Devon Conway, Sam Curran, Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, and Rahul Tripathi.

The five-time IPL champions have already received a ₹9.75 crore boost to their auction purse following Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement from the league. With the added funds, CSK could eye emerging talent and fresh signings to strengthen their next campaign.

💗 Rajasthan Royals’ Leadership Under Review

The Rajasthan Royals are also expected to undergo a shake-up. Sources suggest that Sanju Samson’s future with the franchise could hinge on potential trade talks as RR management explores leadership and structural changes after another inconsistent season.

🇦🇺 Cameron Green Set to Be Hot Property

Coming into the IPL 2026 auction, Cameron Green is one of the most talked-about names. This Australian all-rounder missed the 2025 season due to injury but is now completely fit and might trigger a fierce bidding war across franchises.

Considered a valuable asset in terms of bat and ball, Green has keen watchers throughout the league apparently including MI, RCB, and LSG.

🏆 What to Expect

With teams such as MI, CSK, RCB, RR, LSG, SRH, PBKS, KKR, GT, and DC staring at major rebuilds, the mini-auction for IPL 2026 comes with speculative bidding and strategic trades as franchises try to put together a stronger squad for the season ahead.
