With the IPL 2026 mini-auction on the horizon, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are expected to exercise restraint in retaining their core contingent of players for stability rather than risking them. After having finished last on the table last year, the franchise is mulling over a more strategic shuffle for a mixed bag of experience and youth.
LSG’s Probable Retentions for IPL 2026
According to early reports, Rishabh Pant is likely to continue as captain of LSG despite his inconsistent form. The management reportedly remains confident in his leadership and batting prowess. Alongside Pant, the team is expected to retain Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, Ayush Badoni, Abdul Samad, and Shardul Thakur — all key contributors across departments.
The bowling unit is also expected to remain largely intact, with Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, Akash Singh, M. Siddharth, and Digvesh Rathi forming a balanced pace-spin combination. This continuity could help LSG build a stronger foundation for the upcoming season.
Likely Releases and Squad Overhaul
However, a few underperformers are likely to be released ahead of the mini-auction. As per reports, Mayank Yadav, who has struggled with injuries and form, may not be retained. David Miller and a few other overseas players could also be released to create space for new signings.
