The 19th edition of the Indian Premier League is already being planned as the 2026 IPL auction is set for December 16, 2025. The franchises will have a total of 77 new player slots, while together they will have ₹237.55 crore left to spend.
The experts believe that the auction will be full of buyers' rivals just like the last mega auction in which three players including Rishabh Pant were sold for more than ₹20 crore. They say that this time several players could be purchased at very high prices. The teams have already begun thinking about which players will be priced the highest.
West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell is certainly one of the best players to get a big offer. The player performed for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for 12 seasons, scored 2,651 runs and took 123 wickets. KKR's announcement to let him go before the auction creates opportunities for other teams to draw him. The fact that Russell is capable of performing equally well as a batsman and bowler makes him a very valuable player.
The Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is creating a lot of excitement just before the auction. Cricket experts think that there will be a bidding war among multiple franchises to get his signature, and his current form is the reason for high demand. Recently, Green scored a T20 century against South Africa and he has a batting average of over 160 in the format. Besides, he is also a very effective bowler which makes him a possible candidate being sold at a very high price.
The South African batsman, David Miller, is again among the most wanted players in the auction, with money poured in for him. His past IPL seasons' remarkable consistency brings him a possibility as the franchise's finisher. Last season, Venkatesh Iyer's bid of ₹23.75 crores was a record, which means that the best players could again get very high pay.
Young fast bowlers like Mathisha Pathirana might also get huge bids from teams that want to strengthen their bowling. Right now, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and KKR are the two teams with the biggest remaining budgets, which lets them get the best talent. The players like David Miller or Green will not only be a great addition to the teams but also help with the balance and finishing power of the teams.
It is expected that the franchise managers will focus on the established stars as well as the new talents while the auction for IPL 2026 is held, thus marking another era of high-stakes and high-value player market.
