The IPL 2025 season saw several teams picking replacement players owing to injury and a few others with last-minute conditionalities. Most of these replacements brought good performances and hence stood strong for retention before the IPL 2026 auction.

Here is a list of replacement players who may be retained before the 2026 IPL auction due to performances or team dynamics from CSK, RCB, MI, LSG, SRH, and PBKS:

Ayush Mhatre (CSK)

Chennai Super Kings brought in the young Ayush Mhatre as a replacement for the injured Ruturaj Gaikwad during the 2025 season of the IPL. Although it appeared to be a miserable campaign for CSK, Mhatre's performances highlighted his 240 runs in 7 matches at an average of 34.28 and a strike rate of 188.97. The southpaw's aggressive batting and calmness make him a strong candidate for retention in 2026.

Mayank Agarwal (RCB)

Royal Challengers Bengaluru grabbed Mayank Agarwal for the reinsumer of Devdutt Padikkal. Mayank could play only 4 matches and scored some very crucial 95 runs, giving the batting line-up some stability. He is a strong candidate for retention going into the next edition because of what experience he brings and the title-winning season RCB had.

Dewald Brevis (CSK)

With the selection of South African batter Dewald Brevis over Gurjapneet Singh, Chennai Super Kings have found a potentially exciting option for their middle order. Brevis scored 225 runs in 6 matches at an average of 37.50, with a strike rate of 180, in consistent middle-order performances. Given his aggressive intent and adaptability, he's probably one to hold onto in retention for CSK.

Shardul Thakur (LSG)

Lucknow Super Giants brought in the more nearly all-round Shardul Thakur in place of Mohsin Khan. Thakur lived up to expectations, capturing 13 wickets in 10 matches and 20 runs from down the order. Looking at experience, versatility, and cheapness, LSG are likely to retain him.

Corbin Bosch (Mumbai Indians)

MI replaced Lizaad Williams with South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch. In three matches, Bosch clearly showed his all-round skills and helped finish the playoff run in adding extra depth to MI's squad. The player's consistency in performance should help him get retained.

Urvil Patel (CSK)

CSK grabbed Urvil as the replacement for Vansh Bedi. In his limited opportunities, Urvil amassed 68 runs across 3 matches, holding a ridiculous strike rate of 212.50. His attacking intent and promise as a finisher may grant him a retained spot.

Harsh Dubey (SRH)

Sunrisers Hyderabad introduced Harsh Dubey as a replacement for Smaran Ravichandran while the Vidarbha all-rounder caught eyeballs after taking 5 wickets in 3 matches with an economy of 9.80. Considering his all-round capabilities, retaining him for the 2026 auction is a very likely scenario.

Mitchell Owen (PBKS)

PBKS chose Aussie all-rounder, Mitchell Owen, as a Glenny Max replacement. Owen played one game, and considering his reputation garnered due to stints in global leagues like the BBL and his hitting ability, PBKS could go on to retain him for 2026.
