IPL 2025, MI vs RCB Live Score: Bengaluru posts mammoth 221/5, Mumbai in early trouble

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have lit up the Wankhede with a commanding total of 221/5 in 20 overs against Mumbai Indians. Half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar powered Bengaluru to a dominant position, piling the pressure on a struggling Mumbai side.
Earlier in the evening, MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first. But the decision backfired as RCB overcame the early loss of Philip Salt to launch a full-on assault. Devdutt Padikkal provided the spark with a quick-fire cameo, while Kohli anchored and innovated through the middle overs. Patidar, captaining in Faf du Plessis’ absence, shifted gears rapidly to reach his fifty with a towering six, supported well by Jitesh Sharma at the back end.
Virat Kohli said during the break, “Dev changed the momentum early. Once I got my timing, I could play my shots. Rajat and Jitesh gave us that extra 20-25 runs, especially after one of their spinners was neutralized.”
Mumbai’s bowling woes continued as Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner were expensive. Hardik managed to pull things back briefly, taking key wickets in the middle overs including Kohli and Livingstone. But with short boundaries and a flat deck, MI’s bowlers couldn’t contain the flow of runs.
Chase Begins, Early Drama
Mumbai's response didn’t start well. After losing a quick wicket, Rohit Sharma walked in as an Impact Player but was dismissed for a short burst of boundaries. Yash Dayal trapped him with a delivery that nipped back in, catching him across the line – yet another early exit for the former MI captain.
As it stands, MI are 21/1 in 1.5 overs, needing 201 runs from 110 balls at nearly 11 runs per over. Ryan Rickelton is at the crease with Will Jacks, and they’ll need something extraordinary to pull this off.
Mumbai are currently 8th on the points table with just one win in four games. RCB, on the other hand, are looking sharp and sit in third place with two wins from three.
Can MI stage a dramatic chase, or will RCB’s pace trio – Bhuvneshwar, Hazlewood, and Yash Dayal – close this one out early? Stay tuned as the second innings unfolds.
