The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is expected to resume soon, following a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan that could pave the way for the tournament to continue across the country. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to convene a key meeting on May 11 or 12 to finalise the roadmap for the remainder of the season.
The IPL was abruptly halted on May 8 during a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, after escalating tensions between the neighbouring countries raised security concerns. The BCCI, in response, facilitated the immediate departure of overseas players amid rising uncertainty.
However, the situation shifted dramatically on Saturday afternoon, when Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations reportedly contacted his Indian counterpart around 3:30 PM, resulting in a mutual agreement to cease all military operations by land, sea, and air.
A senior BCCI official confirmed to India Today that the board is now optimistic about resuming the tournament in multiple venues nationwide. “With the conflict de-escalated and a ceasefire in place, we are considering hosting matches across all regions, not just in Chennai, Bengaluru, or Hyderabad as previously discussed,” the official said.
The board is also assessing the availability of international players, some of whom had returned home following the suspension. “We are in regular contact with all stakeholders. While a few overseas players have left, we will factor in their availability as we determine how and when to resume the league,” the official added.
The BCCI is expected to release an updated schedule and venue list once the decision is finalised. Fans can anticipate more clarity in the coming days as preparations gain momentum for the possible resumption of IPL 2025.
