IPL 2025: Complete List of Player Replacements Ahead of Season Resumption

IPL 2025 resumes on May 17; several teams announce replacements as overseas stars pull out due to safety concerns and national duties.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is all set to resume on 17 May, following a temporary suspension triggered by the India-Pakistan conflict. With several international players opting out of the remainder of the tournament due to safety concerns or national commitments, franchises have announced a host of replacements.

The league will resume with a high-profile clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Why IPL 2025 Was Suspended

The tournament was abruptly paused after 58 matches when air strikes were reported near Dharamsala during a game between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC). The BCCI immediately halted play, evacuated the stadium, and arranged for the safe return of all players and support staff to Delhi. The decision was made official the following day.

After India and Pakistan reached a full ceasefire agreement, the BCCI confirmed that the IPL would resume from 17 May to 3 June 2025, completing the season in a condensed window.

Key Replacements Announced Ahead of Resumption

Due to the absence of several overseas players, here’s a look at the full list of replacement signings made by various franchises:

Punjab Kings (PBKS)

Kyle Jamieson comes in for Lockie Ferguson, who has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Mitchell Owen replaces Glenn Maxwell, who exited the tournament earlier due to a finger injury.

Gujarat Titans (GT)

Kusal Mendis replaces Jos Buttler, who has returned to prepare for England’s upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

William O’Rourke steps in for Mayank Yadav, who has been sidelined with a back injury.

Mumbai Indians (MI)

Jonny Bairstow has been named as the replacement for Will Jacks, who has joined the England squad.

Richard Gleeson replaces Ryan Rickelton, who has departed to represent South Africa in the World Test Championship Final.

Delhi Capitals (DC)

Mustafizur Rahman comes in for Jake Fraser-McGurk, who has withdrawn due to personal reasons.
