On Day 4 of the 2nd Test at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Kuldeep Yadav's sensational triple strike ensured India remained in full control. The visitors had a strong first session in the fourth innings, adding 80 runs for one wicket to narrow India's lead to just 18. John Campbell remained unbeaten on 103 before falling to Ravindra Jadeja.

An Indian Batting Dominance

Winning the toss and batting first, India set a massive 518/2 declared. Sense was made of the pitch by opening partnerships of more than 50 between Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. Rahul was out for 38, but Jaiswal kept going and then added another hundred with Sai Sudharsan. Jaiswal completed his seventh Test ton, while Sudharsan was left agonizingly short of a maiden century, being dismissed for 87.

Captain Shubman Gill joined Jaiswal and was unbeaten with him at stumps on Day 1 after the pair helped India set up an imposing declaration. Gill continued with his fine form on Day 2 with a score of 129, asserting India’s dominance.

West Indies Get Back to Fight

The West Indies suffered once more from the Indian bowling attack. After Campbell’s wicket, Alick Athanaze and Tagenarine Chanderpaul resisted with a fifty-run partnership, but Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav barged in, dismissing the visitors for 248 in the first innings.

In their follow-on attempt, the West Indies fought back with an unbroken 138-run stand between Campbell (87 not out) and Shai Hope (66 not out) to keep themselves in the game at 173 for 2 at the close of play on Day 3, just 97 runs behind India.

Kuldeep Yadav's Magic

For Game 4, Kuldeep Yadav really gave one-breaking spell of three wickets at crucial times to turn momentum back in favour of India. West Indies were 307/8 in 94.2 overs, having almost let the maximum lead slip away in the very last minute. Then Bumrah got vital ones by dismissing Jomel Warrican.

Series Context

India played innings and 140 runs to win the first Test in three days; a victory in this match would not only confirm the series with a whitewash but also be the very first series win for Shubman Gill as Test captain.
