India vs Australia 1st T20I Highlights: Rain Plays Spoilsport As Match Gets Abandoned After India’s Fiery Start in Canberra

The first T20I of the series between India and Australia which was held at the Manuka Oval, Canberra was a letdown as rainfall turned out to be the winner with the match getting washed out after only 9.4 overs. After winning the coin toss, Mitch Marsh, captain of Australia decided to send the Indians in to bat first and they got off to a flying start till the rain intervened.

The Blue team was already at 97/1 when the rain stopped play for the second time, with Suryakumar Yadav not out on 39 of 24 balls and Shubman Gill on 37 of 20 deliveries. The only wicket to have fallen was that of Abhishek Sharma (19 off 14), who was caught at mid-off by Tim David off Nathan Ellis in the fourth over. As a matter of fact, the game never resumed despite the flashing lights of Yadav who hit two consecutive boundaries and a giant six.

The Australian fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Ellis were very economical in their bowling before the rain came. Hazlewood gave away 24 runs in 3 overs while Ellis 25 runs in his 1.4 overs. After repeated inspections and still no signs of the weather improving, the umpires decided to abandon the match.

With this match being deserted, both the competing teams stand equal in the five-match series, where four more games are to be played. The next match will take place in Melbourne where the second T20I will be held on 31st October 2025. It is anticipated that the fans will witness a much-awaited battle between the two teams as they still prepare for the T20 World Cup 2026 which will be held in India next year.
