Virat Kohli rises to fourth place in the ICC ODI Rankings, narrowing the gap with top-ranked Rohit Sharma.

Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli is definitely on his way to the top, although it is a gradual process, in the most recent ICC ODI batting rankings. The International Cricket Council has released a new ranking and it has placed Kohli above Shubman Gill, the captain of India's ODI team, now occupying the fourth spot.
Kohli's ranking was given a great boost after he scored a hundred in the Ranchi ODI. He is now only 751 rating points behind Ibrahim Zadran (764), Daryl Mitchell (766), and the current No. 1 Rohit Sharma (783). Besides, he is merely 33 rating points trailing behind Rohit, which clearly shows that he is very close to crowned as the best.
Kohli has a very high chance of going past Rohit in the second ODI which is currently underway against South Africa in Raipur—more so because the Indian captain could score just 14 runs. A high score from his side will definitely make the fight for No. 1 more thrilling.
During the period of 2018 till 2021, Kohli was the world’s best ODI batsman for nearly three years. After that, the Pakistani captain Babar Azam took over that spot and Kohli has not been able to reclaim it ever since.
King Kohli has already retired from T20Is and Test cricket, now he is focusing on the ODI format strictly with the long-term aim of marking his presence in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
