Asia Cup 2025: Shubman Gill Named Vice-Captain, Yashasvi Jaiswal Misses Out as India Announce Squad

The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has announced Team India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, with some big surprises in store. While Shubman Gill has been included and named vice-captain, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been left out. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the Men in Blue in the T20I tournament.

Major Inclusions & Omissions

Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has made his much-awaited return to the T20I squad after missing action since the 2024 T20 World Cup final in July last year. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav also comes back into the fold, with Ravi Bishnoi missing out.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer continues to remain out of India’s T20I plans and was not even named among the five standbys, which include Jaiswal, Washington Sundar, Dhruv Jurel, Prasidh Krishna, and Riyan Parag.

Another notable change sees Jitesh Sharma replacing Jurel as the reserve wicketkeeper, following his explosive performances for RCB in IPL 2025. On the other hand, senior pacer Mohammed Shami has been dropped despite featuring in the England series earlier this year.
