Across India, the sixth day of the Sharadiya Navratri is on 27th September 2025 when worship of Maa Katyayani Pratipurush of Goddess Parvati is observed. This nine-day fete began on 22nd September and will end on 2nd October, thereby celebrating the nine manifestations, called collectively Navdurgas, of Goddess Durga.

The Fierce Warrior: Goddess Katyayani

This is because on this day, the Goddess is worshipped for courage and strength. Scriptures say that she was born to kill the demon Mahishasura. She sits atop a lion and holds a sword and lotus in her two hands. The Goddess gave AbhayaMudra (gesture of protection) and VaradaMudra (gesture of granting bestow) to her devotees.

Apart from marriage, Maa Katyayani is worshipped for courage and strength on the spiritual path. She is said to remove hindrances and have jurisdiction over the planet Brihaspati (Jupiter).
