Wednesday, September 24, 2025, will be the third day of Navratri, dedicated to Maa Chandraghanta, the third manifestation of Goddess Durga. She symbolizes,-peace, happiness, and relief-from all kinds of suffering-who gives strength to her devotees in solace, especially in trouble.
Who is Worshiped on the Third Day of Navratri?
The third day of Sharad Navratri is meant for the worship of Maa Chandraghanta, the married form of Goddess Parvati. She is described as holding ten hands carrying divine weapons, Trishul (trident), Gada (mace), Sword, Kamandal (water pot), Lotus, Arrow, Bow, and Japa Mala (prayer beads), and with two hands blesses her devotees (varada mudra) and assures them of freedom from fear (abhaya mudra).
Why Is She Called Maa Chandraghanta?
After her marriage with Lord Siva, it is said that Goddess Parvati began marking her forehead with the crescent moon (Chandra) mixed with the shape of a bell (Ghanta); hence she was named Chandraghanta.

Significance of Day 3 Worship
The worship of Maa Chandraghanta is for negating forces of evil and a manifestation of inner peace. The worship helps the devotee to overcome fear, heal illnesses, and conquer anguish, thereby instilling courage and harmony.
Rituals to be done on the 3rd Day
- Kalash Aatpana: A sacred metal or earthen pot is placed symbolizing divine energy.
- Invocation: Do three repetitions of the mantra: "Om Devi Chandraghantayai Namah."
- Offerings: Give jasmine flowers, fruits, milk, sweets, and kheer.
- Aarti: Perform a traditional aarti with light from diya and camphor.
- Fasting and Charity: Many also fast and donate food or clothes to those in need.
