The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) team owners are likely to meet in Ahmedabad on April 16. The informal meeting, convened by the BCCI, will have discussion on the mega auction that is scheduled to take place ahead of the cash-rich league in 2025.

The mega auction, as proposed by the BCCI earlier, would be held every three years, and the last mega auction was held before the 2022 season.

The meeting would take place on the sidelines of the Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The meeting would be presided over by BCCI president Roger Binny, secretary Jay Shah and IPL chairman Arun Dhumal.

According to reports, discussions on the mega auction, potential increase in the purse limit for teams, and player retention are on the agenda during the meeting. It is also reported that there could be a potential increase in the auction purse from the existing INR 100 crore.

A BCCI official, on the condition of anonymity, spoke to news agencies, detailing the reason for the meet. “The IPL owners have been invited for an informal meeting. There is no set agenda. Since IPL will be into its second month, it will be a good time for all stakeholders to get together,” the BCCI official said.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah, president Roger Binny and IPL chairman Arun Dhumal will attend the meeting.

Teams are allowed to retain only four players ahead of every mega auction, and if approved, that clause could see some modifications.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are the defending champions of the ongoing IPL season. The IPL 2024 commenced at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 22 and will end at the same venue on May 26.
