Google has launched its experimental AI Mode in India, offering users a smarter, more interactive search experience. Powered by a customer version of Gemini 2.5 and available in English via Google Labs, this feature is now integrated into Google Search, allowing users to ask longer, more detailed questions than ever before.

Early testers report asking queries two to three times longer than usual, using AI Mode for tasks like planning trips, comparing products, and understanding complex how-to guides. Google introduced this feature first in the US in May, where it supported over 50 billion product listings and enabled quick shopping decisions directly from the search page.

Hema Budaraju, Vice President of Product Management, Search, explained, “AI Mode brings together advanced model capabilities with Google’s best-in-class information systems. It’s built right into Search, offering access to high-quality web content, real-time updates from the Knowledge Graph, and extensive shopping data.”

The AI Mode also supports voice and visual searches, leveraging the popularity of Google Lens in India. Users can ask questions by speaking or upload images for instant answers. For example, snapping a photo of a plant can trigger detailed care instructions along with helpful links.

This launch marks a significant step in enhancing Google Search with AI-powered features designed to make everyday searches more intuitive and informative for users in India.
