IIT Bombay has announced the launch of a Certificate in Generative AI, a five-month online programme designed to equip professionals with industry-ready skills in building and deploying Generative AI (GenAI) solutions. The Technocraft Centre offers the programme for Applied Artificial Intelligence (TCAI) and has been developed by IIT Bombay faculty in collaboration with edtech firm Great Learning. Registrations for the course will open in 2026.
According to Great Learning, the certificate features an industry-aligned, hands-on curriculum that enables learners to design, adapt, and deploy GenAI applications in real-world settings. The programme follows a practical, LLM-first approach spread across five modules, starting from the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and large language models to prompt engineering, model customisation using proprietary data, and the development of copilots and multi-step AI workflows.
The course culminates with a focus on the deployment, scalability, and security of GenAI solutions, supported by practical projects aimed at giving participants real-world implementation experience. Upon successful completion, learners will receive a Certificate of Completion from IIT Bombay.
Commenting on the initiative, Prof Manjesh K. Hanawal of IIT Bombay said that Generative AI represents one of the most transformative technological shifts of the current era. He noted that as GenAI moves from experimentation to widespread adoption, professionals must learn to apply it responsibly and effectively. The programme, he added, strengthens conceptual understanding while emphasising practical implementation, enabling learners to identify suitable GenAI models for specific use cases and deploy reliable AI-driven solutions across industries.
The certificate programme is targeted at software engineers, data scientists, analysts, product owners, technology professionals, product managers, STEM graduates, and GenAI enthusiasts who are looking to integrate GenAI into workflows and expand their career opportunities.
Mohan Lakhamraju, Founder and CEO of Great Learning, said Generative AI has evolved from a niche capability into a core professional skill. He added that the programme is designed to help professionals move beyond experimentation and gain a deeper understanding of how GenAI systems work, what they can achieve, and how to apply them meaningfully to real-world challenges. The course further strengthens Great Learning’s collaboration with IIT Bombay to develop future-ready AI talent.
Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university, with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA, are eligible to apply for the programme.
