Hyd resident sues Usha Intl over faulty sewing machine

A Hyderabad resident, Narasingh Rao, has taken legal action against Usha International Limited, alleging dissatisfaction with a sewing machine purchased from the company. Represented by counsel Pasham Mohith Reddy, Rao has filed a case in the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, Ranga Reddy, Telangana.

Rao, who acquired a Usha Janome Marvela sewing machine on January 6, 2024, for skill enhancement and income generation, experienced malfunction issues, including overheating, during a demonstration on January 27, 2024.

Despite efforts to resolve the matter through Usha's customer support, Rao claims inadequate assistance until local intervention. Subsequent examination revealed discrepancies, including a 40-watt motor instead of the advertised 60-watt motor.

In light of these circumstances, Pasham Mohith Reddy, counsel for the petitioner, has approached the District Consumer Commission, seeking compensation amounting to the cost of the machine, totalling Rs 10,800, along with 24 per cent interest.

Additionally, he requested appropriate action against Usha International Limited for deceptive advertising, unfair trade practices, and violations of consumer rights.

Furthermore, he has demanded Rs 5,00,000 in damages for the mental distress and inconvenience caused by the deficient service and misleading advertisements.

Usha International Limited entered appearance in the case and the case is posted to April 29, for Usha to file its response against the petition.
