Flyer attempts to open flight door 5 minutes before landing at RGIA

An air passenger, reportedly under the influence of ‘bhang’, attempted to open the aircraft door mid-flight, just five minutes before landing at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad. The incident, which occurred three days ago, was confirmed by the police on Friday.

The passenger, identified as 29-year-old Anil Patil from Chandragirinagar in Gajularamaram, had traveled to Ujjain with a friend. He boarded an Indigo Airlines flight from Indore to Hyderabad. As the flight approached its landing at RGIA, Patil tried to open the door and engaged in an argument with the flight crew who intervened to prevent him.

“The crew, along with other passengers and his friend, tried to stop him from opening the door, but he did not relent. The crew tackled Patil and restrained him until the flight landed at RGIA. Security personnel apprehended Patil and handed him over to the police,” stated RGIA inspector K. Balaraju.

A case was registered against Patil under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Civil Aviation Act, based on a complaint lodged by Indigo Airlines senior executive Santhosh Reddy.

Police reported that Patil began exhibiting unusual behavior from the moment he boarded the flight in Indore. Despite attempts by the crew to calm him, he continued to misbehave with several passengers. Investigations revealed that Patil had consumed ‘bhang’ in Ujjain before boarding the flight. Currently unemployed and suffering from health issues, Patil was granted station bail after medical evaluations. Further investigations are ongoing.
