Hyderabad is set to become home to India's largest and first "Artificial Intelligence City" (AI City). The Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) has identified 200 acres of land along the Outer Ring Road in the mandals of Maheshwaram, Serilingampally, Chevella, and Ibrahimpatnam for this groundbreaking project. Alongside AI City, Hyderabad will also establish the state’s first Skill University on 100 acres in the same areas, pending final approval from the state government.

The state government is anticipated to finalize and allocate the land parcels for these projects shortly after the election code ends in June. Approval for these land allotments is expected in the next cabinet meeting in June. Officials have indicated that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will lay the foundation for both the AI City and Skill University prior to the "Global AI Summit" scheduled in Hyderabad for July.

AI City is designed to foster and promote the AI ecosystem in India. Notably, an AI City was also announced by the Uttar Pradesh government for Lucknow in December 2023, but it will occupy only 40 acres and is projected to be completed by 2030. In contrast, Hyderabad's AI City, sprawling across 200 acres, is slated for completion by 2028, making it the first operational AI City in the country.

IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu expressed strong confidence in Hyderabad's potential to become the "AI capital of India" through the establishment of AI City. Speaking at a recent Telangana Facility Manager Council (TFMC) meeting, he emphasized, "By setting up a dedicated AI City, we aim to make Hyderabad the ‘AI capital of India’. We want to transform Hyderabad into the most dynamic city for AI activities and a hub for AI research."

Officials from higher education, labor, IT, and technical departments are preparing to visit various states, including Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh, to study the functioning of their skill universities. This initiative, directed by Revanth Reddy, aims to adopt and replicate the best practices from these states in establishing a skill university in Telangana.
