A Ganeshamoorthy, a Member of Parliament from Tamil Nadu's Erode district, passed away early Thursday due to a heart attack. The 76-year-old politician had attempted suicide a few days prior by consuming pesticide. He was rushed to a hospital in Coimbatore for urgent medical care but unfortunately couldn't survive. The Tamil Nadu MP's death has saddened many across the state.

Ganeshamoorthy, affiliated with the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) party, had been elected to the Lok Sabha in 2019. His health deteriorated on March 24 when he felt uneasy and vomited. He was admitted to a hospital in Erode and later shifted to Coimbatore's private hospital where he was put on a ventilator in the ICU. The tragic incident has also raised concerns about cardiac arrest risks following a suicide attempt.

The lawmaker had informed his family about consuming pesticide before falling ill. Despite efforts to save him, Ganeshamoorthy couldn't be revived and passed away around 5 am. Details of the suicide attempt by Tamil Nadu MP have sparked concerns and raised awareness about mental health issues among politicians.

After his demise, hospital authorities handed over his body to the police for post-mortem. The body will then be taken to Kumaravalasu village, 15 km from Erode, for burial.

Ganeshamoorthy had a long political career, having previously won Lok Sabha elections from Palani in 1998 and Erode in 2009. He leaves behind a son and a daughter.
