Plea to deliver pension at doorstep

Visakhapatnam: Noted social activist and former IAS officer EAS Sarma on Wednesday urged Chief Secretary KS Jawahar Reddy to make arrangements for handing over pension to deserving physically challenged and elderly persons at their doorstep.

In a representation to Reddy, he said in Yeleswaram municipality, as a result of instructions issued by the Chief Secretary’s Office at the instance of the Election Commission, pension disbursement to hundreds of physically challenged persons and other beneficiaries who do not have bank accounts has been held up due to incomplete verification of beneficiaries’ details.

Had the concerned officers of the municipality conducted local enquiries to ascertain the details of each beneficiary carefully, such a situation would not have arisen. As a result, several beneficiaries are put to misery.

He requested the State Government to issue special instructions to Yeleswaram municipal commissioner to conduct an urgent local enquiry ward-wise and ensure that not a single eligible beneficiary is left out and put to inconvenience.
