A recent incident involving Telangana Congress leader T Jeevan Reddy has stirred controversy. During a campaign in the Armur Assembly segment, Reddy was caught on camera slapping a woman, sparking widespread condemnation on social media.

The woman, a labourer under the rural employment guarantee scheme, expressed her intention to vote for the 'flower' symbol in the upcoming election. Despite her support for the Congress in the recent Assembly elections, she voiced disappointment over not receiving her pension.

Accompanied by P. Vinay Kumar Reddy, an unsuccessful Assembly election contender from Armur, Jeevan Reddy's actions drew sharp criticism. Several BJP leaders shared the video, condemning the Congress leader's behaviour.

Armur is one of the seven Assembly segments under the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency. In the upcoming election, Jeevan Reddy has been nominated by Congress to contest against incumbent BJP MP D. Arvind.

Jeevan Reddy's political journey spans decades. Initially elected as an MLA from the TDP in 1983, he later joined the Congress Party under Rajeev Gandhi's leadership in 1984. Over the years, he has secured multiple victories for the Congress Party.

Notably, after the formation of Telangana, Jeevan Reddy secured the sole seat from North Telangana for the Congress Party. His political career has been marked by significant electoral wins, including the recent 2019 election where he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Council (Graduate) from the Karimnagar Assembly constituency.

Telangana elections are set to take place in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2024 on May 13.
