4% Muslim quota will continue in AP: Jagan

Vijayawada: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday tried to woo voters from minority communities by saying that his party will continue four per cent reservations to the Muslims and described his bete noire and TDP national president N Chandrababu Naidu as Ossaravelli (chameleon) who talks of safeguarding the interest of minorities and sided with the BJP, which has proclaimed to abolish reservations for Muslims.

Addressing election meetings at Rajampet in Anamaya district, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in support of NDA candidates on Wednesday, Jagan said the double-speak of Naidu exposed that he changes his colours like chameleon. He said Prime Minister Natrendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah were against giving reservations to the minorities. The Chief Minister said YSRCP will continue four per cent Muslim reservation. “Our’s is a party which has seven from minorities as MLAs and three as MLCs,” he said, adding they have started giving reservations in political posts to the minorities. He said they have given tickets to 14 from minority communities in the general elections being held on May 13.

He said the minorities should not side with the TDP-led alliance as BJP leaders have been making outbursts against certain communities. He also described as not practicable the promises made by the TDP and its alliance partner Jana Sena Party in their joint manifesto.

“People have a choice to vote for false promises or YSRCP, which has stood by its manifesto and promised to continue all the welfare schemes implemented during its tenure with increased quantum of benefits,” he said.
